Juniors Jordan Baker, of the men’s basketball team, and women’s swimmer Riley Spitser are the November Spartan Foundation Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by ScholarShare.
Baker, a 6-foot-4 guard, led SJSU in scoring at 11.5 points per game over six contests in November. The Phoenix, Ariz., native played his best game of the season on November 30 against Princeton with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists. After sitting out all of last season, he made a splash in his first game as a Spartan, scoring a team-high 17 points against Portland on November 16. Baker also led the team in assists for the month with 24, and steals with seven.
Spitser helped the Spartans to a fifth place finish in the A3 Performance Invitational hosted by UC San Diego in Monterey Park, Calif. She had a pair of first-place finishes in the 500 and 1,650 freestyle and a top-five finish in the 200 free. The San Diego, Calif., native broke her own school records in the 500 and 1,000 freestyles with times of 4:46.10 and 9:59.68, respectively. The winning time in the 500 was good for an NCAA B-standard qualifier and ranks 2nd in the Mountain West and 25th nationally. Her 1,000-yard split time clocking is the tops in the conference in meets through November 26.
