Women's basketball senior guard Ta'Rea Cunnigan and freshman tight end Andrew Vollert are the Spartan Foundation's December Student-Athletes of the Month, presented by ScholarShare.
Cunningan finished in double-figure scoring in all six games during December, and helped the Spartans to a perfect 4-0 record in The Event Center for the month. The Winchester, Calif., native averaged 15.7 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists in six December games, and notched a season-high 25 points against Southern Oregon (12/2).
Less than three weeks after suiting up for the final football game of the season, Andrew Vollert put on a basketball uniform and played in three men's hoops games including the Mountain West Conference opener at Utah State on New Year's Eve. Vollert provided a much needed presence on the team's shorthanded roster, averaging 18.7 minutes per game. The San Mateo, Calif., native and former basketball player at St. Ignatius Prep, sank a baseline jumper on his first collegiate shot attempt against Seattle U (12/13).
