San Jose, Calif. --- The San Jose State men's basketball team made only 10 baskets and fell, 70-41, to Colorado State in Mountain West action on Saturday night in The Event Center.

The Rams (17-2, 4-2 MW) put the Spartans down 18-8 with 9:07 left in the first half, and never relinquished the double-digit lead.

"They just physically beat us up tonight," said Spartans' head coach Dave Wojcik. They beat us up on the boards, and knocked us off of our lines coming off of screens. They pressured the ball and denied us. They just physically beat us tonight."

The Spartans hit only four shots in the first half, but stuck around by hitting 12-of-15 from the free throw line. Isaac Thornton scored seven of his 11 points from the charity stripe in the first period, and San Jose State went into the halftime locker room trailing by 12, 34-22.

But Colorado State would extend its lead to as many as 32 in the second half. John Gillon, with 14 points, was one of three Rams to finish in double-figure scoring. J.J. Avila notched his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Rashad Muhammad, with 12 points, led the Spartans in scoring for the ninth time this season. Jaleel Williams finished with seven points and Danny Mahoney added five. San Jose State ended up shooting 21 percent for the game (10-of-48), and was outrebounded 46-27.

"They are playing hard and giving me everything they have," Wojcik said. "I just wish they would have some success, and I feel for those guys because they are giving us everything. I wish some more shots would go down for them."

The Spartans hit the road next week for a Wednesday night game at Boise State. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. MT.
