With a more complete team of jumpers and runners, the San Jose State University women's track and field squad begins its 2015 indoor season on two coasts, Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31.
To start their second season as a NCAA Division I program, the Spartans are sending four jumpers to New York City for the Armory Track & Field Invitational and a large contingent to the UW Invitational in Seattle.
The 2015 season marks the first for San Jose State to enter student-athletes in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. High jumper Emma Sutherland and freshmen horizontal jumpers Cambree Harbaugh, Nicole Iloanya and Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw are representing the Spartans. Sutherland, a graduate student from New Zealand, has a lifetime best of 1.80 meters, .01 off a 2014 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships scoring mark.
Harbaugh set the Idaho prep outdoor record in the triple jump at 41-feet-1. Johnson-Upshaw, from Arlington, Texas, was the 2014 Texas 5A State outdoor champion in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet-7.5 inches. Iloanya, also from Arlington, Texas, has a lifetime outdoor best of 40-feet-7.5 in the triple jump.
The Spartans have 15 athletes heading to the UW Invitational with entries in the 60 and 200 meter dashes; 60-meter high hurdles; 800 and mile runs; the long jump and the distance medley relay.
