SPARTANS HEAD TO AIR FORCE & UNLV THIS WEEK
The San José State men's basketball team heads out on the road again this week to face Air Force on January 7, at 7:00 p.m. MT, and UNLV on January 10, at 7:00 p.m. PT. Both games can be seen live via the Mountain West Digital Network and can also be heard on Stretch Internet.

SPARTANS TAKE WYOMING DOWN TO THE WIRE
San José State led for nearly 26 minutes and went down to the wire in a 64-59 loss to the Mountain West's second-place Wyoming Cowboys on January 3. Nine made free throws in 12 attempts during the final minutes gave Wyoming the edge. Ivo Basor was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor including two three-point baskets. Darryl Gaynor II scored 17 to lead the Spartans and was one of three to play all 40 minutes for SJSU.
MUHAMMAD & WILLIAMS RETURN TO ACTION
Rashad Muhammad scored 13 points and added five rebounds while Jaleel Williams had seven points and three assists in their return to action against Wyoming (1/3) after serving a three-game suspension for violating a team rule. Both played all 40 minutes of the game.
IT ONLY TAKES FIVE TO PLAY
San José State used its starting five for the entire first half against Wyoming and had three players, Rashad Muhammad, Jaleel Williams and Darryl Gaynor II on the floor for all 40 minutes. Head Coach Dave Wojcik said after the game that if not for foul trouble he would have stuck with the same five all game. Isaac Thornton and Ivo Basor both fouled out of the game but played 37 and 35 minutes respectively. Basor played all 40 minutes in the previous game at Utah State on December 31.
GAYNOR MAKES IT FOUR STRAIGHT AS SCORING LEADER
Freshman point guard Darryl Gaynor II scored 17 points against Wyoming to lead the Spartans for the fourth consecutive game in scoring. He's averaging 17 points per game during that stretch and he dropped a season-high 24 points against Washington State (12/21). The graduate of Durango High School in Las Vegas led the state of Nevada in scoring as a senior at 24.9 points per game.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Spartans head back out on the road this week for two games after a short return home from visiting Washington State (12/21) and Utah State (12/31). The team will go straight to Las Vegas, Nev., to face UNLV on Saturday after visiting Air Force on Wednesday.
A HOMECOMING FOR Ryan Singer
The Spartans' freshman forward Ryan Singer will be close to home when the team plays at Air Force this week. Singer is a native of Littleton, Colo., located just over 60 miles from Colorado Springs.
MOUNTAIN WEST UPDATE
Colorado State suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night at the hands of New Mexico, 66-53. With that Wyoming, who survived a scare at San José State, jumps up to first place in the standings. New Mexico and Utah State also have a 2-0 mark in MW play. San Diego State did not survive a scare and lost 59-57 at home to Fresno State. Both of those teams and Colorado State are now 1-1 in Mountain West action. Boise State, Air Force and San José State round out the standings all at 0-2.
ABOUT AIR FORCE
The Air Force Falcons (7-6, 0-2 MW) come into Wednesday night's game off of an 80-62 loss at Nevada on January 3. They opened up MW play earlier that week with a nail-biting 53-49 loss at #25-San Diego State. The Falcons are 6-1 this season at Clune Arena where Wednesday's game will take place. Max Yon leads the team in scoring at 14.7 points per game. Air Force is coached by Dave Pillipovich in his third season.
LAST GAME & SERIES HISTORY WITH AIR FORCE
San José State had a comeback fall short for a 51-48 loss to Air Force at home on February 12 at home in the last meeting between the two teams. Devante Wilson led the Spartans that game with 15 points and Chris Cunningham added 13 points and 11 rebounds. The Spartans are 3-2 all-time against the Air Force Academy with a 2-1 record in Colorado Springs.
