COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The San José State University baseball team was picked to finish seventh in the Mountain West in a poll of the conference's head coaches, the conference office announced Tuesday morning.
New Mexico, the defending Mountain West co-champion, was tabbed to take the conference crown with three first-place votes and 30 overall points.
Senior right-hander Kalei Contrades was named to the 2015 Mountain West Preseason All-Conference Team, also voted on by the head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own school or players. Contrades went 5-2 with a 2.50 ERA in 17 appearances for the Spartans last season and will get the ball on Friday nights in 2015.
San José State opens the 2015 campaign this weekend when it visits LMU for a three-game nonconference set. Friday and Saturday will have 6:00 p.m. start times, with Sunday's series finale starting at 1:00 p.m.
