Stanford, Calif.-- Regan De Guzman and Megan Osland finished in the top-10 of Peg Barnard Invitational as the San José State women's golf team finished third at 581 in the first tournament of the spring season at the Stanford Golf Course.

De Guzman shot a two-under 69 on Sunday and finished tied for fourth at one-under 141, her first top-10 finish this season. She started her round with a birdie on the first hole and made two more birdies on #5 and #7 and was three-under after her first nine holes. De Guzman made six pars and a birdie on #15, but bogeys on the par-5 #12 and the par-3 #17 left her at +1 on the back nine.

Osland shot an even-par 71 in the final round to finish ninth at one-over 143. She made a birdie on her second hole of the day and a bogey on #6 was the only blemish on her card that had 16 pars including 12 consecutive from holes 7-18.

"Regan and Megan had nice tournaments," stated Spartan head coach John Dormann. "Regan hit her irons well and made pretty good putts, almost making an eagle on #5 today. Megan is playing very consistent golf and hitting it good."

Elizabeth Schultz had her second top-20 finish of the season as she tied for 14th at 148. She shot a 75 on Sunday and recorded a birdie on #8.

Kathleen Rojas had her best finish of the year as she ended the tournament tied for 22nd at 149 after shooting a 73 in the final round. After starting +3 over her first six holes, She made seven consecutive pars (#10-16) then went birdie, bogey, birdie and two pars to end the round.

"Kathleen battled for us today. She played well and finished strong over her last 13 holes," said Dormann."

My Leander rounded out the Spartan scoring with a 78 on Sunday and a 154 for the tournament, tying for 43rd. Fanny Johansson played as and individual in the tournament and finished tied for 59th at 163 after shooting an 83.

The Spartans shot the second-best team score of the day with a four-over 288 to finish third at 581. Oregon won the tournament by three shots with a 576 and shot a final-round even-par 284. First-round leader UC Davis shot +12 in the second round and finished just two shots ahead of the Spartans at 579. The Spartans finished ahead of top-five-ranked Stanford who finished fourth at 585 and California who was fifth at 592.

"This was a good start to the semester," said Dormann. "We made a lot of pars and picked up where we left off last semester. We are playing consistent golf from tee-to-green and avoiding the big numbers. We still need to figure out how to play the par 5s better and make more birdies. But, it's not everyday that we beat a top-five team on their home course."

San José State now prepares to host the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational next Monday and Tuesday, February 23 and 24, at the Almaden Golf and Country Club.
