Fresno, Calif.----- Caitlin Wilson became the first San José State University women's track and field athlete to win a track race in the program's brief history with her first-place finish in the 55-meter dash at the Run For The Dream Meet at the Save Mart Center.

Wilson, a freshman from Tallahassee, Fla., ran identical times of 7.06 in the qualifying round and in her final heat for the victory. She edged Fresno State's Shakira Lewis, the third-place finisher in the 60 meters at the 2014 Mountain West Indoor Championships, at the tape by .01 seconds.

"Caitlin did really well. She was the highlight of the meet," said San Jose State track and field coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "Caitlin has a lot of range and is a real good competitor. She is going to get faster as the races get longer."

Freshman Makayla Webb from Sacramento was the one Spartan to reach a final in two events. Webb placed seventh in the 55-meter dash at 7.34 seconds and fourth in the 55-meter high hurdles at 8.40 seconds. She finished ahead of teammate Leah Lambert in the high hurdles. Lambert, a freshman from Lake View Terrace, Calif., was fifth at 8.46 seconds.

Sophomores Melanie Fujiwara from Lancaster, Calif., and Karina Nunes from Roseville, Calif., finished third and fourth, respectively, in the mile. Fujiwara ran a lifetime indoor best of 5:36.11 and Nunes was clocked in 5:40.68.

Freshman Marayne Martin from Oakland, was the Spartans' top finisher in the 800 with her fifth-place time of 2:25.72.

Freshman Cambree Harbaugh, who finished first in the triple jump and long jump at the Jacksons/NB Boise Invitational the weekend of February 6 & 7, closed out the Spartans' eight top-five finishes with a fourth-place tie in the long jump. Harbaugh jumped 18-feet-5.25.

"We'll see more good things as this team matures. We're coming along nicely," added Petersmeyer about the Spartans, now in their second season of NCAA indoor track and field competition. With 13 freshmen on the team, a majority of them are looking ahead to the 2015 Mountain West Championships, February 26-28, at the University of New Mexico.
