Hufstetler Named Mountain West Player of the Week

San Jose, Calif. - Jessie Hufstetler earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors (Feb. 12-15) after hitting .625 with four home runs, 16 RBI and scoring six runs in five games this past weekend at the Hillenbrand Invitational. The announcement was made at the Mountain West's conference office on Monday afternoon.

In five games in Tucson, Ariz., Hufstetler, a junior out of Atascadero (Calif.) High School, was 10-for-16. In addition to four home runs, she had two doubles and, walk and only struck out only once. Her on-base percentage was .667 and she slugged 1.500.

Against Drake, a 12-4 victory, she homered twice. The first, a two-run shot, tied the game at 4-4 and an inning later a three-run, inside-the-park homer drove in the game-winning run. In her next at bat she singled in two more. The seven RBI are a single-game career-high.

In a 13-2 (5 inning) win over Wright State, Hufstetler drove in two runs in an 11-run first inning. She knocked in the first run of the bottom of the first with a double and as the 12th batter of the frame was HBP to drive in the 8th run. She also scored twice in the inning. In the third she led off with a solo homer.

Against #14 Arizona, a 9-1 loss, Hufstetler drove in the team's lone run of the game on a single in the first inning and had another single in the fifth. She had two of the team's eight hits in the game.

Against Loyola (Chicago), she gave SJSU a lead with a two-run bomb in the bottom of the first. Later, leading 3-2, her bases-clearing double plated three runs to give the Spartans a unassailable 8-2 lead, on the way to an 11-2, 5 inning win.

Against Loyola Marymount, her fifth-inning single ended up coming around and being the run which run ruled the Lions 10-2.

This is the first Player of the Week honor for Hufstetler they year and the second straight week a Spartan has received the honor.

San Diego State's Erica Romero was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week.
