COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San José State’s Sybille Gauvain was named Mountain West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played Feb. 11-17, as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.
Gauvain, a freshman, went 2-0 in singles play on the week as San José State won both of its matches, topping UC Santa Barbara 6-1 on Feb. 14, and Cal Poly 4-1 the following day.
Playing at the No. 1 singles position, Gauvain turned back Santa Barbara’s Jaimee Gilbertson (7-5, 6-3) and Cal Poly’s Louise Oxvenad (6-2, 6-1) in straight sets.
The native of Paris, France, was paired with fellow freshman Abbie Pahz at No. 2 doubles, but did not finish either match as the Spartans clinched the doubles points with victories in the other two doubles matches.
The award is the first of Gauvain’s career.
