Covering more sprint events and entering the high hurdles for the first time in the program's brief history, the San Jose State University women's track and field team has 27 entries in the two-day Jacksons/NB Boise Invitational meet. The Spartans begin competition, Friday, February 6, in the long jump and 200-meter dash, and conclude with eight events the next day at the Jacksons Indoor Track Center in Nampa, Idaho.
Freshmen Leah Lambert (Lake View Terrace, Calif.) and Makayla Webb (Sacramento, Calif.) will be part of San Jose State track and field history as the first Spartan women entered in an indoor hurdles race and the 400 meters on February 7. Lambert is entered in the 60-meter high hurdles; Webb in the high hurdles and the 400 meters. Both could be part of a very busy day as runners on the 4x400-meter relay.
Freshmen Marayne Martin (Oakland, Calif.) and Caitlin Wilson (Tallahassee, Fla.) and junior Lenae Stevens (Hollister, Calif.) also are 400 meter entries for the Spartans.
San Jose State also has athletes in the 60-meters, 800-meters and mile run track events and the high jump, long jump and triple jump. A week ago, in meets held in New York City and Seattle, Washington, the Spartans had entries in eight events.
For Spartan freshman Cambree Harbaugh, the trip to Boise will be close to home. The Meridian, Idaho's Mountain View High product was ranked #1 in the state in the indoor long jump and was a two-time 5A Idaho state outdoor champion in the long jump.
There is no team scoring in this meet. Besides San Jose State and host Boise State, Utah State, Weber State, Idaho State, College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon, San Francisco State and Warner Pacific have entries in the 17-event competition.
