Cedar City, Utah-- Maddie Herr won the all-around, and Gabrielle Kambur scored her career-best on beam to highlight the San José State women's gymnastics meet at Southern Utah Friday night. The Spartans recorded a 193.975 team score but fell to the Thunderbirds who had a 195.375.
Herr won the all-around with a 38.950. She had a team-best 9.825 on floor and 9.775 on bars and added a 9.625 on vault and a 9.725 on beam.
Kambur anchored the beam team in the fourth rotation and needed a solid routine to enable the Spartans to not count a fall. She came through with a career-best 9.825 and finished second on the beam.
San José State started the dual meet on bars with a 48.575, while Southern Utah scored a 49.075 on vault. Cami Guyer and Herr led the bars team as each scored a 9.775. Kaitlin Won had a 9.725, followed by Rachel Heinl at 9.700, Mackenzie Douglas at 9.600 and Alyssa Kaschak at 8.900.
The two teams switched apparatus. San José State scored just a 48.275 on vault, while Southern Utah had a 48.925 on bars. Alyssa Montalban and Heinl led the Spartans at 9.675. Hannah Gilbert and Won each scored a 9.650, while Herr had a 9.625 and Guyer at 9.575.
The floor team recorded the highest team score of the night with a 48.850. Herr led the team with a 9.825, followed by Kiley Field with a season-best 9.800. Guyer received a 9.775, followed by Won at 9.750 and Montalban and Douglas at 9.700.
The final rotation found the Spartans on beam scoring a 48.275. Won started the team off but fell to score a 9.000. Amy Bellingham then scored a 9.550, followed by twin sister Allison Bellingham, performing her first collegiate routine with a 9.525. Guyer socred a 9.650, then Herr at 9.725 and Kambur at 9.825.
San José State competes on the road next Friday, February 13, at Sacramento State, beginning at 7 p.m.
