Waikoloa, Hawai'i --- The San José State men's golf team shot 292 (+4) on the day, and finished in 15th place out of 18 teams with an 11-over-par 875 at the conclusion of the Amer Ari Invitational in Waikoloa, Hawai'i.
"It means a lot to play against a field like this," said Spartans' head coach John Kennaday. "After all the dust settles, you realize that you are capable and it's not as daunting. I think we got a lot out of this tournament."
#25-Cody Blick finished as the Spartans' low individual in a tie for 39th place, shooting 72-69-71-212 (-4). He had the low round of the day for the Spartans which included three birdies.
Landon Polterock entered the final round in a tie for 12th place at -6, but a 75 backed him up into a tie for 43rd place. The senior opened the event shooting 68-70.
Marcus Potter shot his low-round for the event on Saturday, an even-par 72, and finished in a tie for 98th place. Henrik Sohlberg shot back-to-back 74's in the last two rounds to arrive at +7 and a tie for 85th.
Felix Möesmang shot 77-78-78-233 (+17) for the tournament and finished in a tie for 106th place. Brett Thawley, competing as an individual, shot 78-79-75-232, good for a tie in 104th place.
"We need to sharpen up quite a bit," Kennaday added. We learned a lot about what we can do and where we need to go from here."
#25-Arizona State shot 271 (-17) as a team in the final round to capture a two-shot victory over #19-Washington. The Huskies' Cheng-Tsung Pan, ranked first in the country by Golfstat, took individual medalist honors by shooting 65-65-69-199 (-17). Stanford's Maverick McNealy was second at -15.
The Spartans tee it up next in the NIT Arizona beginning February 28.
