The San Jose State University women's water polo team seeks a return to the win column when it travels to Cambridge, Mass., for the Harvard Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, March 7 and 8.
The Spartans are one of eight teams, the highest-ranked squad and the only one from outside the Eastern Time Zone. For the third week in a row, San Jose State (12-5, 0-1 MPSF) is ranked ninth in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's weekly poll. The Spartans' bid to move up in the poll was thwarted by #1-ranked UCLA in a 7-3 decision to open Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play for both teams.
Coach Johnny Bega's squad will be facing three teams with winning records heading into the weekend starting with Iona (8-5) and Brown (5-3) on March 7. The Spartans conclude the tournament with host Harvard (8-4) and Marist (5-6) on March 8. Of the four opponents, Marist received votes in the March 4 weekly poll. Connecticut College, #11-Princeton and VMI are the other teams in the tournament.
All four San Jose State games will be available on the Ivy League Digital Network.
San Jose State last played in the Harvard Invitational during the 2012 season. The Spartans won all four of their matches defeating Harvard, Iona, #8-Princeton and Brown.
