Bandon, Ore. --- San José State's Cody Blick has the entire field at the Bandon Dunes Championship in his rearview mirror after posting a 7-under 65 in the opening round Friday in Bandon, Ore.
Blick finished with a clean scorecard, which included five birdies and an eagle. He went out with a 33 and then birdied four of his last six holes coming in to end up seven-under-par.
It is the second time this season that Blick has recorded a score at seven-under-par or better, and he is the only player to do so at San José State since Jay Myers shot a 64 (-8) at the 2010 Palouse Collegiate.
As a team, SJSU shot 291 (+3) and is in 10th place out of 16 teams playing the 6,830-yard, par 72 Bandon Dunes Course.
Matt Ashley's 1-over 73 was the next lowest score for the Spartans after Blick. Scott Munger's 76 (+4) and Taylor Bromley's 77 (+5) rounded out the counting scored for San José State. Landon Polterock finished the day at +7. Brett Thawley, playing as an individual, matched Munger's 76.
UC Davis sits atop the team leaderboard at -7. The Aggies hold a two-shot lead over Saint Mary's heading into the second round. Blick holds a two-shot lead over Washington State's Michael Anderson.
