Childs Third Through Four Events At The Northridge Multis

March 19, 2015

Los Angeles, Calif. --- The 2014-15 San José State women's outdoor track and field season officially began Thursday when Jade Childs competed for the first time as a Spartan in the women's heptathlon at the Northridge Multis.

Childs, who redshirted the indoor season, compiled 2,909 points and is in third place out of 18 competitors after four events: 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter, high jump and shot put.

"I think this was a solid start," head coach Jeff Petersmeyer said. "Our marks weren't quite where we want them to be, but this was a good start for Jade to gear up for more events this season. It was great to see her compete in the Spartan colors."

Childs finished the 100-meter hurdles in 14.69. Her mark of 1.62 meters in the high jump was second only to Humboldt State's Kate Earle who cleared 1.68 meters. She tossed the shot put 10.44 meters and clocked a 27.03 in the 200-meter event.

"We are looking forward to tomorrow," Petersmeyer said. "The long jump is a strong event for Jade."

Along with the long jump, the heptathlon wraps up on March 20th with the javelin throw and the 800-meter run.
