Greensboro, N.C.----- San José State University freshman Morgan McCormick finished 63rd out of 72 entries in the 200 individual medley on the first day of the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by North Carolina State University.

McCormick posted a time of 2:00.90 in her preliminary heat, less than .50 seconds away from her school-record time of 2:00.41 that she recorded at the Mountain West Championships at the end of February.

"I was happy with my swim. It was a good way to start the meet," said the 2015 Mountain West Freshman of the Year, who was seeded 65th in the event prior to the championships held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. "All of the strokes felt great."

"She had a really good first swim," San Jose State women's swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins. "She was right on track with her best time in the event."

Four-time Olympic gold medalist Missy Franklin of the University of California turned in the fastest time in the 200 individual medley preliminaries with a 1:53.62 clocking.

McCormick, from Golden, Colo. (Arvada West HS), is looking forward to her next two events - the 100 backstroke on Friday, March 20, and the 200 backstroke on Saturday, March 21. She won the Mountain West Championship in the 200 backstroke with a school and conference record time of 1:54.13.
