Eugene Ore. --- The San José State men's golf team returned to Oregon this week where the rain was waiting for them again and the Spartans shot 298-302-600 (+24) through the first 36 holes of the Duck Invitational.
After last week's Bandon Dunes Championship was shortened due to rain, Cody Blick and the Spartans played through the elements again on Monday. Blick turned in the low score for San José State, a 3-over-par 147.
"We didn't finish they way we would have liked," said Spartans' head coach John Kennaday. "But I'm proud of the way these guys fought. It was an 11-hour day of golf and everybody was soaked in the first hour."
Blick Shot 73 (+1) in this first round. In round two, the 23rd-ranked individual in the Golfstat cup standings was at -3 before going +5 over the last four holes. Despite a rough ending, Blick is still 14th on the individual leaderboard and just five stroke back of ArizonaState's John Rahm.
Taylor Bromley turned in the lowest 18-hole score of the day for SJSU, an even par 72 in round one. Bromley birdied the par-3 seventh, and followed that up with an eagle on the par-5 eighth. He is tied for 28th place on the individual leaderboard at +6.
Matthew Ashley turned in a pair of 76's for a 152 (+8), Scott Munger shot 79-74-153 (+9), and Landon Polterock went 77-79-156 (+12).
#4-Arizona State at +3 and #13-Washington at +6 control the top spots on the team leader board with 18 left to play.
The final round at the 7,020-yard, par 72 Eugene Country Club begins tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PT.
