Johnson Upshaw's Season Best And Childs' High Jump Highlight Mesa Classic

April 10, 2015

Mesa, Ariz. --- The San José State women's outdoor track and field team got a season-best from Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw in the long jump and a victory by Jade Childs in the high jump at the Mesa Classic to begin an action packed weekend in Arizona.

"I thought we competed well in some off events," said Spartans' head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "I saw some things really come together with Kelsey's long jump, and then Makayla competed well in the 100 meters. Jade was fine after falling during the hurdles and I thought she performed well in the high jump."

Childs cleared the bar in the high jump at 1.61 meters to take victory. Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw's 5.75-meter mark in the long jump was a season-best in both outdoor and indoor in 2014-15.

Makayla Webb clocked a 12.38 in the 100-meter dash, her first attempt at the event this season.

"I thought this was a good warm up for the Sun Angel tomorrow," Petersmeyer said. "A lot of teams use this meet to get ready for tomorrow and I thought we did a good job of that today,"
