Osland, De Guzman In Top-10 At Silverado Showdown

Day One Results 

Napa, Calif.-- San José State women's golfers Megan Osland and Regan De Guzman are in the top-10 of the Silverado Showdown after two rounds Monday at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa. The Spartans ended the day in fifth place at 602.

Osland is tied for fifth at 146 after shooting an even-par 72 and a two-over 74 on Monday. She made five birdies over the two rounds and is five shots behind leader Esther Lee of Colorado who shot a 141. After starting with a bogey on her first hole of the day, Osland made seven consecutive pars before back-to-back birdies on #9 and #10 put her at one-under. She made two more pars before a bogey on the par-4 #13 put Osland back at even. She finished the round with five consecutive pars for her 72.

In the second round, Osland started with two pars before a bogey on #3 left her at +1. She made three pars and a birdie to go back to even after seven holes. A bogey on #8 sent Osland back to +1, but she again made back-to-back birdies, this time on #10 and #11 to go to one-under. After a par on #12, Osland recorded a double-bogey on #13 and a bogey on #15 to finish with a 74.

De Guzman was consistent in her two rounds on Monday, shooting a 74 in each round and is tied for 10th at 148. Starting her rounds on #2, she made four consecutive pars in the first round before back-to-back bogeys on #6 & 7 put her at +2 on her round. De Guzman made four more pars before a bogey on #12 put her at +3. She made a birdie on #15, bogey on #17 and a birdie on #18 to finish at 74.

The second round found De Guzman going par-bogey-bogey to open the round. She made four consecutive pars before on #9 put her at +1. De Guzman then made seven consecutive pars before going bogey-birdie-bogey to end with a 74.

My Leander is tied for 28th at 153 after shooting 73-80 on the day. She made two birdies and 13 pars during her first round. Elizabeth Schultz is tied for 35th at 155. She shot 80 in the first round and rebounded with a 75 in the second. Fanny Johansson, playing the lineup for the first time this year, is 65th at 160 after shooting 80-80.

San José State is fifth at 602 after shooting 299 and 303. The Spartans are 13 shots behind leader Oregon at 589 and 10 shots behind second-place Colorado at 592.

"Megan played really steady for us again today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We are still having problems capitalizing on our birdie opportunities. Hopefully, we can take advantage of those opportunities."

Final round action begins Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Spartans begin on holes 5,6 and 7 alongside Oregon State and Harvard.
