Childs Ends Heptathlon With A Lifetime-Best 4,991 Points

April 16, 2015

Azusa, Calif. --- A school-record and two more season-best marks in the final three stages on Thursday gave San José State's Jade Childs a lifetime-best 4,991 total in the women's Mt. SAC heptathlon at the California Invitational Combined.

For the second day in a row, Childs improved in every event from her first go at a heptathlon at the Northridge Multis back on March 19-20. She began the day by setting a new San José State record in the long jump at 5.86 meters.

Childs followed that with a season-best javelin throw of 32.16 meters, surpassing her previous best of 29.32 meters.

Finally, Childs clocked a 2:40.30 in the 800-meter run. It was a season-best time that was more than three seconds faster that her 800 at the Northridge Multis.

"I couldn't be prouder of the performance today," said Spartans' head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "It's great to see a lifetime best. She came up just short of 5,000 and that's what we are aiming for next time."

Childs and the rest of the San José State women's outdoor track and field team compete all day tomorrow in the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific.
