A top-10 Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) player, Charles Thompson, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to compete for the San José State men's golf team beginning with the 2015-16 season. Head coach John Kennaday made the announcement.
"We are really excited and can't wait to work together with Charles," said Spartans' head coach John Kennaday. "He has really good disposition for the game and tremendous upside. He is a bit of a late bloomer and we are fortunate to make him a part of our team."
Top-20 finishes at the Nike Golf Jr. Series and the Odlum Brown Classic helped Thompson to an 11th place finish in the 2014 CJGA standings out of more than 500 individuals.
Through four events on the junior circuit this season, Thompson currently ranks seventh.
While San José State was playing in the 69th Western Intercollegiate on April 11-12, Thompson was playing in the MCB Curacao Masters. Thompson was one of 26 amateurs to qualify for the pro-am event where he recorded a runner-up finish.
Thompson joins Diego De La Torre (Bush Prairie, Wash.) and Kevin Velo (Danville, Calif.) in the group of NLI signees for 2015-16.
