San Jose, Calif. -- San José State sent 14 batters to the plate in the third inning against the Utah State Aggies, scored nine runs, and busted a 1-0 game wide open on its way to a 10-0 five-inning victory on Saturday afternoon at SJSU Field.

The win improves the Spartans (30-15, 10-4 MW) home record to 7-2 with six of the wins coming by way of run-rule.

San José State took full advantage of the Aggies pitching in going 5-for-9 with runners on and with two outs, and 5-for-8 with runners in scoring postition.

With Jessica Madrid (1-for-2, 2 R, RBI) on second, following a leadoff double to open the bottom of the third, Jessie Hufstetler (2-for-2, 3 R, 2 RBI) took a 2-0 pitch and clobbered it over the fence in right center for her team-leading 11th home run of the year.

Two batters later, Alyssa Martinez (3-for-3, 2 RBI, R), whose RBI double staked the Spartans to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, singled. A walk, RBI single from Taylor Purdy (1-for-3, RBI) and another walk loaded the bases.

Nicole Schultz (1-for-1, R, RBI) was hit to drive in the team's fourth run of the inning. Two batters later, Madrid walked on four pitches to plate the fifth run. A wild pitch allowed Schultz to score and it was 7-0.

Hufstetler walked to load the bases again and Sharon-Renae Estrada (1-for-2, 2 RBI) followed her with a two-run single up the middle. The ninth and final run of the frame came on a Martinez RBI-single.

The nine runs in an inning are the most since San José State scored 11 in the sixth inning of a 15-0 win against Utah Valley on March 13.

Madison Fish earned the win scattering three hits and walking two to move to 13-4 on the year.

The Aggies only real threat came in the second when they got a one-out triple from Noelle Johnson followed by a walk. After a strike out, Utah State (16-29, 8-9 MW) attempted a double steal. Purdy cut off the throw to second and the Spartans had Johnson caught between third and home. Johnson, trying to get back to third, was tagged out by Estrada to end the inning and the threat.

The Aggies used three pitchers with Johnson (14-14) taking the loss after giving up a run in the first. Paige Mills surrendered the nine runs and six hits in the third, part of her 1 2/3 innings of work. Jordyn McCracken finished the game allowing one hit.

The Spartans and Aggies wrap up its three-game Mountain West series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at SJSU Field.
