Complete Championship ResultsÂ
San Diego, Calif. --- Nicole Iloanya added eight points to San José State's team score with her runner-up finish in the triple jump, and the Spartans concluded the Mounatin West Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 10th place with 33 total points.
Illoanya's distance in the triple jump was 12.75 meters, second only to New Mexico's Jannell Hadnot at 12.91 meters. Iloanya and fellow freshman Cambree Harbaugh combined in the triple jump to put 10 points on the board for the Spartans, who scored a total of 15 on the final day of the championship.
Both relay teams also scored points for SJSU. The 4x100-meter team of Cambree Harbaugh, Makayla Webb, Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw and Maija Pinkins scored two points with their seventh-place finish. Caitlin Wilson, Webb, Jennifer Beckingham andPinkinscombined for an eight-place result in the 4x400-meter relay which put a point on the board for San José State.
"Both relay teams raced really tough," said Spartans' head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "They did a great job of hanging in there and scoring points for us. We plugged Cambree (Harbaugh) into a relay and she really stepped up for us when we needed her this week."
Makayla Webb scored two points for the Spartans with her seventh-place result in the 400-hurdles. The freshman ran a 1:02.62 in the 400-hurdles after clocking a 14.07 in the 100-hurdles final earlier in the day.
"We're a really young team," Petersmeyer said. "Today may not have been our best day, but this team is only going to get better."
Senior Rebecca Garcia finished her career as a Spartan with a personal-record 18.00.07 in the 5,000-meter run.
"I'm really proud of the way she closed out her career," said Petersmeyer. "She has done a lot for this program on and off the track, and it is the end of a great career."
Overall this week, San José State scored its first-ever points in an Outdoor Mountain West Championship. Jade Childs got it all started with her fifth-place finish in the heptathlon. And Johnson-Upshaw became SJSU's first women's track athlete in the two-year history of the program to become a conference champion when she won the long jump event on Friday.
"We can't complain," said Petersmeyer. "We didn't even score a point in last year's event. Then we scored 17 at the indoor championships, and we are continuing to improve. I'm really proud of our young team."
