May 18, 2015

Colorado Springs, Colo. --- The Mountain West announced Monday that San José State's freshman jumpers Kelsey Johnson-Upshaw and Nicole Iloanya are 2015 Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference honorees.

Johnson-Upshaw, an Arlington, Texas native, became San José State's first women's conference champion in the history of the two-year program when she won the long jump event at the MW Championship. Her jump was a season-best and she recorded it on her third and final attempt in wet conditions. The graduate of Mansfield Timberview High School scored 10 points for the Spartans with the jump and together with her relay efforts got a total of 12 points on the board for SJSU in the championship.

Iloanya placed second in the triple jump event at the MW Championship. She entered the event with the conference's best mark during the regular season. The graduate of Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas scored eight points for SJSU with her runner-up result.

"Kelsey and Nicole stepped up in a big way at the conference championship," said Spartans head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "The Mountain West has been a tough conference in the horizontal jumps, so to come away with a first and a second place results as freshmen is outstanding."

The all-conference selections are awarded to the top-three finishers in each event at the championship. Johnson-Upshaw and Iloanya became the San José State women's track and field team's first outdoor all-conference honorees.
