Four SJSU Athletes Qualify For NCAA Track & Field Prelim Championships

Indianapolis, Ind.----- For the first time in its short two-season history of the program, four San Jose State University women are qualifiers for an NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Filed Preliminary Championships meet.

Freshmen Cambree Harbaugh (Meridian, Idaho) Nicole Iloanya (Arlington, Texas) and Makayla Webb (Sacramento, Calif.) and graduate student Emma Sutherland (Napier, New Zealand) qualified for the NCAA West Region meet at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, May 28-30.

Harbaugh will be entered in the long jump on May 28; Iloanya, the triple jump on May 30; Webb, the 400 hurdles on May 28; and Sutherland, high jump on May 29.

"From our first recruiting class, to have four going to this meet is great. It will be exciting and a wonderful experience," says San Jose State University track and field head coach Jeff Petersmeyer. "Moving forward, hopefully, our numbers will grow for this NCAA meet."

The four Spartans are among 48 entries heading to Austin in their respective events. The top-12 finishers in an event from the West and East Region meets advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, June 10-13, in Eugene, Ore.

Iloanya is the #13-qualifier in the triple jump her season-best 12.79 meters at the Longhorn Invitational on May 2. She placed second in her specialty at the 2015 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 16. Iloanya is the top-ranked American-born and #3-overall freshman in the Austin, Texas meet's triple jump.

Sutherland is the #31-qualifier in the high jump with a season-best 1.77 meters. She has a career best of 1.80 meters prior to enrolling at San Jose State.

Webb is the #42-qualifier in the 400 hurdles with a season-best 1:00.01 clocking in a preliminary heat at the Mountain West Championships. She would go on to finish seventh in her first 400 meter hurdles outdoor conference championship.

Harbaugh is the #43-qualifier in the long jump with a season-best 5.97 meters. She placed fifth at the Mountain West Championships in the long jump.
