San José State women's track and field and cross country student-athlete Rebecca Garcia is a 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District eight honoree as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Garcia is a 2015 suma cum laude graduate and a two-time SJSU President's Scholar in 2014 and 2015. The Anaheim, Calif., native is a five-time academic all-conference honoree and a 2015 Arthur Ashe, Jr., Sports Scholar.
Her athletic accomplishments include school records in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000 meter events. She scored in 18 of 20 cross country meets during her career. She set the school record of 18:00.07 in the 5,000-meters at the Mountain West Championship, the final race of her career.
As an all-district honoree, Garcia now advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in June after the 2015 CoSIDA Convention.
