Roy To Be Part Of Mountain West All-Star Women's Volleyball Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- Current San José State volleyball player Tyanna Roy is one of 12 players selected to comprise an all-star women's volleyball team that the Mountain West is sending to Europe, July 7-18, 2015. This is the second year in a row for the trip Leading the trip will be New Mexico women's volleyball coach and 2010 MW Coach of the Year Jeff Nelson.

Twelve Mountain West student-athletes make up the team that will travel to Maribor, Slovenia for three days of training sessions and friendly matches against national teams from Croatia, Israel and Slovenia. FromJuly 13-16, the team will compete in the 2015 European Global Challenge in Pula, Croatia, featuring junior national and club teams from throughout Europe. Bring It Promotions, under the ownership of Tim Kelly, is managing the Mountain West all-star trip and has been running the Global Challenge tournament for 11 years. BIP has been coordinating overseas University tours since 1997. The 2014 squad placed third in the Brijuni Division at the Global Challenge.

Roy, who will be a senior this fall, led the 2014 Spartans in kills with 324, 3.00 ps, and added 99 digs and 47 blocks. She is the second player to represent San José State in Europe as former Spartan Hanah Blume was part of the 2014 All-Star team.

The Mountain West all-star team includes two setters, one libero, four middle blockers and five outside hitters from eight of the 11 MW member institutions. Two-time All-Mountain West honoree Julia Warren of New Mexico returns to the travel team and is joined by Lobo teammate Devanne Sours. 2015 MW Newcomer of the Year Kaitlyn Oliver and her Boise State teammate, All-MW pick, Maddy O'Donnell will also be on the squad along with other All-Conference team members Adrianna Culbert (Colorado State), Bree Hammel (UNLV) and Alexis Patterson (UNLV). Assisting Nelson on the coaching staff is Air Force assistant coach Marc Swindle.
