San Jose, Calif. -- For the second time in as many years, San José State outfielder Michelle Cox has earned first-team Capital One Academic All-District 8 designation. The honor was announced on Thursday afternoon from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) headquarters in Austin, Texas.
As voted by the CoSIDA membership, the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Cox, a native of Sydney, Australia, will complete a degree in business administration later this month and has a four-year cumulative grade point average of 3.78.
On the field, Cox, a senior, is a four-year starter and leadoff hitter. She broke an 18 year-old program record for runs scored earlier this season and will finish her career ranked in the top-10 of San José State softball history for batting average, on-base percentage, steals, steal percentage, total bases, slugging percentage, at bats and triples.
This year she lead the team in at-bats, runs, hits, triples and steals. She is third in batting average and on-base percentage, fourth in slugging percentage and is fifth in doubles.
Cox is one of two Mountain West softball student-athletes, New Mexico's Brandi Heimburg being the other, to earn first--team Capital One Academic All-District Team honors.
As a first-team Academic All-District honoree, Cox advances to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month and in early June.
