South Bend, Ind.--Shooting better in the second round, the San José State women's team shot a 303 and remained in 16th place with a 613 after two rounds at the 2015 NCAA South Bend Regional at the Warren Golf Club. Duke remains atop the leaderboard at one-over 577.
Regan De Guzman and My Leander each shot a 75 to lead the Spartans on Friday. De Guzman is now tied for 44th at 152. She made three birdies and nine pars during her round. She shot a one-over 37 during her first nine holes (#10-18).
Leander is tied for 58th at 154. She was even after her first nine holes on the day, starting with a bogey on hole #10 before four consecutive pars, a birdie and three more pars for her 36. Leander made only one birdie and five pars over the last nine holes.Â
Megan Osland shot a 77 and is tied for 51st at 153. Although she did not make a birdie this round, she made 13 pars including five straight on holes 1-5 and four straight on #10-13.
Elizabeth Schultz improved from the first round by shooting a 76 and is now tied for 70th at 156. She made back-to-back birdies on #6 and #7 for her only two of the day.
Kathleen Rojas shot an 81 and is tied for 86th at 159. During the round, she made five consecutive pars on holes #16-18 and 1-2.
Play was suspended during the round at 2:51 p.m. EDT/11:51 a.m. PDT for approximately three hours due to lightning and weather in the area.
"We played better on the par-3 holes today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We are driving the ball into trouble which is causing the big numbers we are posting."
The Spartans final-round action begins at 9:39 a.m. EDT/6:39 a.m. PDT Saturday morning with Troy and Youngstown State.
