South Bend, Ind.--San José State women's golf freshman Elizabeth Schultz shot the team's best score of the weekend with a 73 in the final round of the NCAA South Bend Regional Saturday. The Spartans finished the regional in 16th place at 918, while Duke won at 873.
Schultz was the team's top finisher at the regional as she tied for 53rd at 229. Starting the day on hole #10, Schultz began her round with seven consecutive pars before a bogey on #17 and a par on #18 found her at 37 at the turn. She went to two-over par with a bogey on #1, rebounded with a par then a birdie on the par-4 #3, and finished the round with six straight pars.
Regan De Guzman and My Leander tied for 56th at 230. De Guzman shot a 78 for the final round and had just two birdies during the round. Leander shot a 76 Saturday as she recorded a birdie on her final hole (#9) and 13 pars.
Megan Osland finished her Spartan career with a 78 in her final round and tied for 65th at 231. She had two birdies during the round.
Kathleen Rojas also carded her final round as a Spartan with an 81. She tied for 90th at 240. She started the day with birdie-par before three consecutive pars put her two over through five holes. Rojas then made seven straight pars before a string of bogeys and a double bogey left her at 81.
"Elizabeth had a solid round today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "This was a disappointing effort overall. Hopefully, we learned a few things about competing at the highest level that we can use next year."
