Scholar All-America teams

Norfolk, Va.----- The San Jose State University women's swimming and diving team continued its overall academic excellence with a Spring 2015 College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America award.

The Spartans' 3.17 aggregate team grade point average exceeded the 3.00 standard set by the CSCAA for the award.

"While I am very happy with the athletic accomplishments of my team, I am especially proud of what they are achieving in the classroom," says San José State women's swimming and diving head coach Sage Hopkins, whose team also was honored after the Fall 2014 semester. The Spartans' streak of CSCAA team awards stands at six consecutive academic years.

"As a coach, I feel that my most important role is to encourage the academic development of the student-athletes with which I work. They do a tremendous job academically ... often in very academically challenging STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) majors, and are the embodiment of 'student-athlete.'"

San José State was one of 172 NCAA Division I women's programs to earn the national academic honor.
