Ottawa, Ontario CANADA ----- San Jose State University's Donia Momen is one of 12 players named to the Canadian national women's water polo 20-&-under team that is competing in the 11th FINA World Women's Junior Water Polo Championships, August 17-23, 2015, in Volos, Greece.
The junior-to-be from North Vancouver, British Columbia, will be in her third season with the Spartans in 2016. Last season, Momen scored 13 goals including the game-winner in the final moments of San José State's 9-8 win over Arizona State for fifth-place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament. San Jose State finished the season with a 21-10 win-loss record and was ranked eighth in the final national coaches' poll.
The Canadian team begins round-robin competition in the 16-team tournament against Australia on August 17. Matches against the Netherlands on August 18 and Italy on August 19 complete pool play. Teams then will be matched for elimination rounds starting on August 20.
Momen is the second Spartan to compete in a FINA World Championship this summer. Her San Jose State teammate, Clara Espar Llaquet, was a member of the 7th place Spanish National Team that competed in Kazan, Russia, for the 2015 women's world championship won by the United States.
