San Jose, Calif.----- Alana Burgess, a girls water polo head coach for the Coronado (Calif.) Aquatics Club, was named an assistant coach for the nationally-ranked San José State University women's water polo program. Johnny Bega, the Spartans head coach for women's water polo, made the announcement.
Burgess worked for her hometown aquatics club since 2011. During her last two years, she also served as the assistant coach for the Coronado High School girls water polo varsity team. The 2015 Islanders finished with a 19-8 win-loss record and qualified for the C.I.F. San Diego Section playoffs.
The 2013 San Diego State University graduate majored in public administration. She was a member of the Aztecs women's water polo teams of 2009 through 2012. The 2009 and 2012 San Diego State teams finished eighth nationally in the final coaches' poll.
