Beaumont, Texas --- Samantha Orodpour put in the first goal of the season for the San Jose State women's soccer team, which went on to dominate Lamar for 3-0 victory in the 2015 regular-season opener for both teams.

"This was a big stride for our team getting a shutout tonight," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson. "It's a big step for our program to start on the road with a strong 3-0 win."

Orodpour put the Spartans ahead in the 14th minute when she collected a rebound near the center of the box and booted it passed the Lamar keeper. The Spartan offense remained on the attack for the entirety of the match, outshooting the Cardinals 20-7.

San Jose State scored two more goals in the second half. Darlene Rodriguez cut through heavy traffic and fired a turnaround shot through two defenders on the right side for SJSU's second goal in the 50th minute.

"Darlene was aggressive on the attack tonight," Hanson said. "She did exactly what we wanted her to do for our offense."

San Jose State's third goal was a header by Claire Berkley off of a corner kick from Carley McBeath on the left side.

"That last goal was a phenomenal set piece off of Carley's service," Hanson said. "We had a lot of opportunities on goal tonight and I'm just really proud of the way our team practiced this week and then came out and played."

It will go down as a team shutout, as Paige Simoneau was inserted as a reserve goalkeeper for the Spartans in the 81st minute.

The Spartans will stay in Texas for the remainder of the weekend and take on the Rice Owls Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. CT.
