Santa Barbara, Calif. --- San Jose State's second match in a row going into double-overtime ended in a 1-1 draw on Friday night on the road at UC Santa Barbara.

"I thought we played really well," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson. "We worked really hard and saw a lot of good pieces come together."

Darriell Franklin took a feed in from Maricruz Chapa on the right side and slipped in her first-career goal as a Spartan in the 28th minute to pull the SJSU even with the Gauchos. It was the first assist of the season for Chapa, who scored the lone goal in SJSU's previous match that went into double-overtime against Rice.

Franklin nearly struck again in the 60th minute, but her line-drive shot from near the front edge of the box hit the dead center of the crossbar.

"Darriell played phenomenal," Hanson added. "Our front line did a great job of creating some opportunities. I'm happy about playing well again on the road, and I think that this match shows how our fitness has played a huge role in our ability to compete until the very end."

Mallory Hromatko scored the goal, unassisted, for UCSB (0-2-1) in the 12th minute. San Jose State (1-1-1) limited UC Santa Barbara to five shots during the match, and neither team took a shot in the final 10 minutes.

San Jose State ends its four-match road trip to open the 2015 season this Sunday at Sacramento State. The contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. PT.
