Sept. 13, 2015

Final Stats

San Luis Obispo, Calif. --- Darlene Rodriguez's second goal of the season got the San Jose State women's soccer team out to an early 1-0 lead, but consecutive Cal Poly goals handed the Spartans a 2-1 loss in nonconference action Sunday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

"The team started well," said Spartans' head coach Lauren Hanson. "Unfortunately we didn't take care of business at the back today. I thought our midfield played really well, and we produced a lot of good opportunities."

Rodriguez and the Spartans struck first in the 21st minute to take the 1-0 lead. The unassisted goal for Rodriguez was her second of the year, and the first since her goal in the season-opening win at Lamar.

San Jose State (2-2-2) and Cal Poly (3-2-2) were dead even in shots at 12 a piece, and each team put seven shots on goal.

Cal Poly's Elise Krieghoff put in the equalizer in the 30th minute, and it was Emily Hansen who put in the game-winning goal for the Mustangs in the 71st minute.

Rodriguez and Alexis Venegas each had two shots on goal for the Spartans. Samantha Orodpour and Dorthe Hoppius also contributed a shot on goal.

Paige Simoneau, in her first start, was credited with five saves. Alyssa Giannetti saved six for Cal Poly.

San Jose State has a quick turnaround and will take on San Francisco at home Tuesday, September 15, at 4:00 p.m.
