Women's Golf Fourth After Two Rounds At Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic

Fort Collins, Colo.-- The San José State University women's golf team made 28 birdies over the first two rounds of the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic and are currently fourth at 584, six shots out of first place. Regan De Guzman is tied for sixth at one-under, 143, and two shots out of first.

San José State shot a 297 and was in 10th place after the first round, making 13 birdies during the round. In the second round, the Spartans made 15 birdies to shoot a one-under 287 and move up six places in the team standings to fourth. The Spartans were one of three teams to shoot a 287 in the second round, the lowest team score of the day.

San José State is tied for second in birdies made with 28, and leads the tournament in par-5 scoring at -8, with a 4.80 average.

De Guzman shot a three-under 69 in the second round and is tied for sixth at one-under, 143. In the first round, she made one birdie, three bogeys and 14 pars in her round of 74. The second round was just the opposite, with four birdies and just one bogey with 13 pars for her round of 69, her ninth round in the 60s as a Spartan.

Elizabeth Schultz is tied for 21st at 147 after shooting 73 and 74 during her rounds. She made three birdies and 12 pars in the first round, and two birdies and 12 pars in the second round.

After shooting a 79 in the first round, My Leander rebounded with a two-under 70 in round two and is tied for 35th at 149. She made just two birdies in the first round but bounced back with five birdies and 10 pars in the second round.

Freshman Alexandra Cooper made her Spartan debut on Monday by shooting 76-74 and is tied for 41st at 150. She made three birdies in her first collegiate round, followed by two more in round two.

Fanny Johansson started the tournament strong with a 74, followed by an 80 and is tied for 62nd at 154. She made four birdies in her first round and two in the second round.

Long Beach State leads the tournament at two-over 578, followed by BYU and host Colorado State at 580. The Spartans are then fourth at 584, followed by San Francisco at 586 and California at 587.

"Overall, we had a good team effort today," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "Fanny and Alex gave us solid first-round scores, and our leaders, Regan and My, played up to their capabilities in the second round. Liz gave us consistent play during the two rounds.

"We have been working hard in practice on our putting from 10 feet in to make these birdie conversions. I am glad to see us getting results from our early season practices."
