San Jose, Calif.--After a second-place finish in the team's first tournament this season, the San José State women's golf team looks to keep the momentum going this weekend at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday, September 26 and 27, at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
The same five players make up the Spartan lineup for this tournament - Elizabeth Schultz, Regan De Guzman, My Leander, Fanny Johansson and Alexandra Cooper. Schultz finished tied for second at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic, while De Guzman tied for fifth.
The Spartans are one of 14 teams in the field competing on the par-72, 6,112-yard course. Teams begin play with a 7:30 a.m. PT, shotgun start each day as 36 holes are played on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday.
San José State returns to the tournament as the defending champs after winning the team and individual titles last year. The Spartans won the 2014 title by 24 shots over New Mexico State, while former Spartan Megan Osland shot 74-71-72-217 to win the individual title by seven shots.
"Golf play is based upon the conditions presented," said Spartan head coach John Dormann. "We are familiar with the golf course and know it can be hot and windy. We have been focused on preparing for the conditions we can anticipate, and we hope to get better every round."
