Meehan Records Second Double-Double For Volleyball

Las Vegas, Nev.-Allison Meehan recorded her second consecutive double-double for the San José State volleyball team Saturday afternoon, but the Spartans fell at UNLV, 3-1 (22-25, 25-11, 25-17, 25-23) in a Mountain West match at Cox Pavilion.

Meehan had 44 assists and 11 digs in the match for her seventh career double-double. She added four kills and two blocks for the Spartans.

Giulia Gávio led the Spartan hitters with 14 kills, while Sara Hibbs hit .333 with 13 kills on 27 attempts and only four errors. Hibbs and Nandyala Gama each had three block assists to lead San José State.

Four Spartans had double-figure digs for the Spartan defense. Yavianliz Rosado led the team with a season-high 23 digs. Luiza Andrade added 12 digs, while Jamie Hirai and Meehan each had 11 digs.

San José State won the first set 25-22 behind seven kills from Gávio in the set. The Spartans trailed 22-21, but Gávio recorded kills for points 22, 23 and 25 for the set win.

The Spartans fell in the next three sets 25-11, 25-17, 25-23, and hit only .034 over those three sets.

San José State returns home next week for the first time in over a month. The team opens the home portion of the MW schedule with matches against Air Force on Thursday, October 1, at 6 p.m., and versus New Mexico on Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m.
