Palm Desert, Calif.--Playing 36 holes in 105-degree heat Saturday, the San Jose State women's golf team has a one-shot lead with a 597 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate played at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Spartans opened with a 294 in the first round, led by Regan De Guzman's one-under 71 on the par-27, 6,112-yard course. My Leander and Elizabeth Schultz each shot 74, followed by Alexandra Cooper at 75 and Fanny Johansson at 83.
Scores in the second round trended higher as the wind kicked in to 15-25 miles per hour. San Jose State shot a 303 to end at 597 and has a one-shot lead over UC Riverside at 598. The next closest team is Sacramento State at 611.
Three Spartans ended the day in the top-10. De Guzman is fifth at 147, Leander is eighth at 149, and Schultz is tied for ninth at 150. Cooper is tied for 29th at 156, Johansson is tied for 48th at 159.
Final round action begins Sunday morning with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
