Davis, Calif. ----- The No. 19-ranked San José State Spartans men's water polo team grabbed its' second win of the season, defeating the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds, 10-7, in the Aggie Roundup at UC Davis on Sunday, September 27, 2015.
"The team had some ups and downs, but we are developing a reputation with the other teams of playing hard and not backing down," said Spartans' Head Coach Bruce Watson. "We showed improvement from the NorCal Invitational and we showed some real toughness through some difficult situations."
Finishing with a 1-3 record in the two day roundup, the Spartans (2-8, 0-0 MPSF) lost to No. 2-ranked Stanford Cardinal 20-5 to close out the tournament. San José State kicked off Sunday with a 10-9 exhibition win over the Diablo Valley College Vikings, a junior college in Pleasant Hill, Calif.

With the score tied four times in the opening half, San José State snagged the lead on a shot by driver Cade Baldridge with 0:50 seconds left in the second period as the Spartans held on for the exhibition win.
Croatian 2-meter defender Igor Miljan scored back-to-back goals to give the Spartans their first lead after Zac Hudson scored the opening goals for the Vikings. Baldridge found the cage again in third period for his second goal.
San José State's leading goalkeeper Matej Matijevic made eight saves.
San José State 10, Fresno Pacific 7
Finding the net twice in the first half, junior Scott Reynolds scored three goals as the Spartans beat the Sunbirds (1-5, 1-1 WWPA) in Fresno Pacific's first game of the Aggie Roundup.
San José State jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Reynolds, Baldridge and Zachary Scudder, building a 7-2 advantage by halftime over Fresno Pacific.
Miljan found the back of the cage on a penalty shot after being fouled by Fresno Pacific's David Maes at 1:59 in the third period.
Scudder scored his second and the Spartans' final goal, getting the ball past Sunbirds' goalkeeper Dillon Robinson in the final period. In the cage for SJSU, Matijevic had seven saves.
No. 2 Stanford 20, San José State 5
Stanford scored early and often, outscoring San José State 8-2 by halftime. The Cardinal (12-1, 0-0 MPSF) grabbed eight goals in the fourth to shut down the Spartans.
Baldridge led San José State with two goals while Justin Contreras, Blake Grove and Scudder each added a goal. Matijevic blocked eight Stanford shots.
Adam Abdulhamid led the Cardinal with four goals.
