Tyler Ervin Named Mountain West Offensive Player Of The Week

Sept. 28, 2015

Colorado Springs, Colo.----- Based on a record-setting performance in a Mountain West football victory, San Jose State University running back Tyler Ervin is the conference's Offensive Player of the Week.

The 5-foot-10, 177-pound senior from Colton, Calif., set a San Jose State single-game record rushing for 300 yards on 42 carries and scored three touchdowns in the Spartans rousing 49-23 victory over rival Fresno State in the 79th meeting between the teams.

Ervin scored on a pair of 2-yard runs in the first quarter staking San Jose State (2-2, 1-1 Mountain West) to a 14-0 lead. His third touchdown came on the Spartans' first second half possession -- a 30-yard burst through the Fresno State defense.

The 300-yard rushing effort is the top single-game figure by a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) player in games played through September 26. With four pass receptions for 45 yards, Ervin accumulated 345 all-purpose yards in the win, also the number-one single-game total this season. By himself, he outgained Fresno State, 345 to 247.

His 42 carries was one shy of matching the San Jose State single record and ranks as the second most carries in a game in Mountain West history. The 300 rushing yards is third all-time in the conference.

Ervin enters the week leading the nation in all-purpose running with a 227.00 yards per game average, is third in rushing with 641 yards and is tied for fourth in scoring with 10 touchdowns.

San Jose State looks for its first winning streak of the season when the Spartans take on Auburn, Saturday, October 3, in a 3:01 p.m. kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium. A year ago, Ervin scored the Spartans' only touchdown on a 75-yard pass reception -- which matched the longest pass play against Auburn in 2014.
