Sept. 28, 2015

Colorado Springs, Colo. --- One day after making San José State women's soccer history, keeper Zoe Makrigiannis was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for September 21-27.

With two shutouts against Wyoming, 1-0 (OT), and Colorado State, 2-0, Makrigiannis became San José State's all-time leader in career individual shutouts with 12.

Both shutouts for the native of Surrey, B.C., Canada came on the road, and helped the Spartans to their first 2-0 start in conference play since 2009.

Makrigiannis' six saves during the week moved her up to fifth all-time at SJSU with 201 for her career.

Three of the six came in the first half against Wyoming (10/25) to preserve a scoreless tie, which the Spartans broke with a golden goal in overtime to win, 1-0.

Zoe has now won a defensive player of the week award in each of the last two seasons for San José State. She is the second Spartan to earn player of the week honors this season after Darriell Franklin was the offensive honoree for August 24-30.
