SPARTANS BRING MOMENTUM HOME
San José State picked up two huge wins last week in Mountain West play on the road and now hopes to bring that momentum home for matches on Friday versus Boise State and Sunday versus Utah State. Friday's match will begin at 2:00 p.m., and Sunday is set for 12:00 p.m. Check back later this week for information on live streaming for both contests.

INSIDE THE MATCHUPS
San José State came away with a 1-0 victory against Boise State on the road last season in the 16th matchup between the two programs. The Broncos hold the edge in the all-time series, 8-6-2. The Spartans used a 3-0 win to spook the Broncos on Halloween night in 2010 in the last meeting between the two teams in San Jose. SJSU came up empty last season in a 1-0 loss to Utah State in what was the ninth matchup between the programs. The Aggies hold a 5-2-2 lead all-time over the Spartans. San José State will be trying to snap a four-match loosing streak to Utah State when the teams meet Sunday afternoon. The last win versus the Aggies came on October 24, 2010 when Kayla Santacruz's hat trick helped the Spartans to a 4-1 victory.
SPARTANS SWEEP MW OPENING WEEKEND
San José State defeated Wyoming, 1-0 (OT), and Colorado State, 2-0, last weekend on the road in the opening weekend of Mountain West play. It is the first time SJSU has started out conference play with a 2-0 record since 2009.
MAKRIGIANNIS BECOMES ALL-TIME LEADER IN SHUTOUTS
Senior keeper Zoe Makrigiannis (Sr., GK, Surrey, B.C., Canada) earned the 11th and 12th shutouts of her Spartan career over the weekend, making her the all-time career leader in that category. She made six saves combined in the two matches, three of which came in the first half against Wyoming to preserve a scoreless tie. San José State eventually broke that tie with a golden goal in overtime to defeat the Cowgirls 1-0.
ZOE WINS MOUNTAIN WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
One day after making San José State women's soccer history, Zoe Makrigiannis was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week. She has now been a defensive player of the week honoree in each of the last two seasons. Zoe is the second Spartan to earn player of the week honors this season after Darriell Franklin (Fr., F, La Habra, Calif.) was the offensive player of the week for August 24-30.
FRANKLIN'S GOLDEN GOAL DOWNS WYOMING
San José State went into overtime for the fourth time this season in the conference opener at Wyoming. Freshman forward Darriell Franklin has seen enough after six minutes of overtime and booted in the golden goal that gave San José State a 1-0 victory. It was Wyoming's first loss at home since October of 2013.
FRANKLIN-ORODPOUR TANDEM TOO MUCH FOR COLORADO STATE
Darriell Franklin scored her fifth goal of the season to put San José State up 1-0 over Colorado State in the 42nd minute. Samantha Orodpour (Jr., F, Chino Hills, Calif.) hit franklin with a cross from beyond the top-left corner of the box, and was credited with the assist. Less than three minutes into the second half, Franklin returned the favor assisting Orodpour's second goal of the season and the Spartans left Fort Collins with a 2-0 win.
SPARTAN OFFENSE AMONG THE MW'S BEST
San José State has recorded 44 points so far this season, just one behind the conference leader Utah State. A big chunk of that is the league-leading 16 goals the Spartans have put in together with a 13-match scoring streak dating back to last season.
TOP MW FRESHMAN SCORER PLAYS FOR THE SPARTANS
Darriell Franklin currently leads all Mountain West freshmen in both goals (5) and points (11). Those numbers have come in only six matches played, while conference points leaders Shaina Ashouri (16) and Jessica Brooksby (15) have played in 10 and 11 matches respectively.
STILL SEARCHING FOR FIRST HOME WIN
The Spartans are winless with a record of 0-2-1 at Spartan Soccer Field this season. The team is 4-2-1 on the road. SJSU has two matches at home this week to get some wins before heading back out on the road for four straight.

The Broncos (3-5-3, 1-1-0) come in after splitting last weekend's matches with a 2-1 win over preseason favorite San Diego State, and a 2-1 loss to New Mexico. Michelle Reed and Baylee Blaser with three goals a piece are the team's leading goal scorers. Boise State has 11 total goals to San José State's 16. Jim Thomas is in his third season at the helm for the Broncos with an overall record of 25-21-9.
MORE ON UTAH STATE
The Aggies (5-5-1, 0-2-0 MW) fell to New Mexico, 1-0, and San Diego State, 2-0, last weekend. Jessica Brooksby's is the team's leading goal scorer with seven and her 15 points are good for second in the conference. Utah State has a total of 15 goals on the year, one less than SJSU. The Aggies also have a proven defense that has shutout four teams so far on the year.
HOPPIUS RECORDS 10TH SPARTAN HAT TRICK
Sophomore forward Dorthe Hoppius recorded San José State's 10th hat trick in program history versus CSUN (9/20). Two of her three goals were go-ahead scores for the Spartans. It was the first hat trick since Kayla Santacruz scored three goals in a 4-1 win over Utah State in October of 2010.
SHARING THE WEALTH
Continuing a trend from last season, six different Spartans have found the back of the net in 2015. Darlene Rodriguez, Dorthe Hoppius and Darriell Franklin each have three goals to lead the team. Maricruz Chapa has added two goals, and Samantha Orodpour and Claire Berkley each have one. In 2014, San José State had a Mountain West leading 12 different goal scorers.
FRANKLIN WINS MOUNTAIN WEST PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Freshman forward Darriell Franklin (Fr., F, La Habra, Calif.) was named the MW Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 23-30. She became the first Spartan freshman to win a conference player of the week since Mikaella Meibock in 2012. In two matches, Franklin put three out of five shots on goal and two in the back of the net.
