SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Tyler Ervin ran for three touchdowns and San Jose State beat New Hampshire 43-13 in the opener for both teams Thursday night.
Ervin carried 20 times for 127 yards. He scored on runs of 1, 2 and 30 yards. Thomas Tucker added 74 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Joe Gray was 16 of 20 for 253 yards and a touchdown pass to Billy Freeman. The Spartans amassed 707 yards.
San Jose's defense held New Hampshire to just 186 yards. The Wildcats managed just 10 first downs, going 4 for 13 on third down.
Sean Goldrich, among New Hampshire's Top 10 in career passing yardage, attempts and completions, was 10 of 22 for 60 yards. Dalton Crossan and Trevon Bryant had touchdown runs.
New Hampshire hasn't beaten an FBS opponent since 2009, losing six straight.
