Oct. 1, 2015

Final Stats

San José, Calif.- Hana Tresnáková and Giulia Gávio led the San José State hitting attack Thursday night as the Spartans swept Air Force, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-17) in the team's Mountain West home opener at Spartan Gym.

Tresnáková and Gávio each recorded 11 kills in the win. Tresnáková also had 13 digs for her first double-double of her Spartan career and a team-best three service aces. Tyanna Roy and Nandyala Gama each had seven kills. Gama hit .417 (7-2-12) and led the team with six block assists.

Allison Meehan recorded her third consecutive double-double with 32 assists and 12 digs and added three block assists. Yavianliz Rosado led the Spartan defense with 14 digs.

Taylor Elliott, making her first start at middle, hit .333 for the match with three kills on six attempts and only one hitting error. She also recorded a dig in her home debut.

San José State swept a conference opponent for the first time since the 2013 season when the team won 3-0 at Nevada on November 2, 2013. The home sweep of a conference opponent is the first since the 2012 season when SJSU was in the Western Athletic Conference. That team swept Utah State in Spartan Gym on November 12, 2012.

Playing at home for the first time in over a month, the Spartans came out strong in the first set, taking the lead from the first serve and never letting the Falcons tie or take the lead. San José State won the first set 25-23 on one of Roy's seven kills on the night.

The two teams battled in the second set as Air Force led by as many as three, the last at 22-19. The Spartans then battled to tie the score at 22-22, and each team exchanged the lead before a Tresnáková ace gave SJSU the lead for good at 24-23. Gama and Meehan then combined on a block for the set win at 25-23.

The third set was similar to the second set with seven tie scores and three lead changes. However, the Spartans took control of the set earlier, taking a 9-8 lead on another Roy kill and did not looking back the rest of the match. Gávio recorded her 11th kill on match point for the 25-17 win and 3-0 sweep of Air Force.

San José State is now 10-6 on the season and 2-1 in MW play. The team recorded double-digit wins for the first time since the 2012 team went 14-16.

The Spartans host New Mexico this Saturday, October 3, at 1 p.m. at Spartan Gym. Admission is free to the match.
