Roy Leads Spartan Volleyball At Utah State

Logan, Utah- Tyanna Roy led the Spartan volleyball team with nine kills as San José State fell at Utah State, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-15), Saturday night in a Mountain West match.

Roy hit .240 on the night with 25 attempts and only three errors. She added three digs and two blocks. Hana Tresnáková added eight kills and four digs. Summer Avery and Nandyala Gama each recorded seven kills, and Sara Hibbs led the team with three blocks.

Yavianliz Rosado led all players with 17 digs, while Allison Meehan was one dig short of a double-double with 29 assists and nine digs.

After falling 25-19 in the first set, the Spartans took the lead from the first serve of the second set. The team led 13-10 before the Aggies scored the next five points to take the lead for good and win the set 25-21. Utah State led the third set from first serve, winning 25-15.

The Spartans (10-9, 2-4) hit just .116 for the match, while Utah State (5-15, 1-5) hit .309. The Aggies recorded more service aces (6-3) and blocks (9-5) in the win.

San José State returns home for four matches over the next two weeks. The team hosts Wyoming on the 15th, Colorado State on 17th, UNLV on the 22nd and Fresno State on the 24th. Admission to all matches is free.
