Tyler Ervin Named To Paul Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll & More

Oct. 12, 2015

San Jose State University running back Tyler Ervin is one of two Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) players named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll list for games played the weekend of October 10.

Ervin, a senior from Colton, Calif., was a key figure in San Jose State's 33-27 win in overtime against UNLV in a Mountain West contest. The 177-pound running back scored the game's final two touchdowns on a fourth down, 21-yard pass reception to give the Spartans a temporary 27-24 lead with 1:09 left in regulation play.

After San Jose State defensive end Isaiah Irving blocked a UNLV field goal try in overtime, Ervin carried the Spartans (3-3, 2-1 Mountain West) to victory with four carries for 25 yards culminating in a 2-yard lunge to the end zone for the game-winning score.

In the game that placed the Spartans back at the .500 plateau for the season and elevated the team to second place in the West Division of the Mountain West, Ervin accumulated 249 all-purpose yards on 73 rushing yards, a career-high eight receptions for 74 yards, four kickoff returns for 100 yards and a punt return in which he was credited with 2 yards.

Ervin, named to the Paul Horning Award Preseason Watch List in July 2015, enters this weekend's key conference contest with San Diego State as the national leader in all-purpose running (231.2 yards/game), second in rushing (874 yards & 145.7 yards/game) and fifth in scoring (13.0 points/game). His 300 rushing yards and 345 all-purpose yards in the September 26 win over Fresno State remain the best single-game performance in both categories by a FBS player this season.

The Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, is awarded annually to the most versatile player in major college football.

Ervin and University of Georgia wide receiver Reggie Davis were honored on this week's Honor Roll list.

The San Jose State running back also was named one of 32 players to the College Football Performance Award's Midseason Watch List for National Performer of the Year. Nine running backs and 23 quarterbacks made the list. Ervin is the only Mountain West player named.

San Jose State hosts San Diego State (3-3, 2-0 Mountain West) in the Spartans' 2015 Homecoming Game, Saturday, October 17, in Spartan Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m. with television coverage by ESPNU.
