San José, Calif.--Hana Tresnakova led the Spartans in kills, and the San José State volleyball team took a set from the 21st-ranked Colorado State but fell to the Rams, 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19) Saturday afternoon in Spartan Gym.
Tresnakova was the only Spartan with double-digit kills at 12. She also had nine digs and an ace in the match. Tyanna Roy added eight kills, followed by Nandyala Gama at seven and Sara Hibbs with six. Hibbs led the team with seven blocks, while Roy added six blocks.
Allison Meehan recorded 24 assists, while Yavianliz Rosado and Jamie Hirai each had 10 digs.
Ram Adrianna Culbert recorded the first quadruple-double in Colorado State and MW history with 10 kills, 20 assists, 13 digs and 11 blocks. The Rams out blocked the Spartans 17-9.
The two teams battled back-and-forth in the first set with five lead changes and 14 tied scores. The Spartans took the final lead at 23-22 on a Hibbs kills and won on a Ram service error 25-23. San José State broke the Rams streak of 17 consecutive sets won. CSU had not lost a set since a 3-2 win over Boise State on September 26.
Colorado State (15-3, 8-0) responded by winning the next three sets, 25-15, 25-14, 25-19, and hitting .284 (37-10-95).
San José State hosts two MW matches next -- UNLV on Thursday, October 22, at 6 p.m., and Fresno State on Saturday, October 24 at noon.
